Color can definitely give life to anything. It is used to express emotions, thoughts, and energy among other things. In a particular space or room, color provides the background for any design element.

Choosing the correct wall color can make or break the entire look and atmosphere of a room. So it is important that you make the best selections when it comes to color for your wall. Oftentimes, any accessories or furniture that you place in the room will be chosen based on the color you paint your walls.

The color of your selected wall decor, whether wire wall art, metal wall hanging, butterfly metal wall hangings or framed pictures will also be affected by your wall color selection.

There are certain tips that you can follow to assist you in your decision and to create the perfect wall.

Bring samples along

If you have a pretty good idea on what color you want for your walls then by all means make that choice. Nonetheless, we many times select colors based on an inspiring fabric, painting or paper.

To help you get a particular color though a reference material or if you want to know which color will work best on certain fabrics then it is advisable that you bring a sample of your reference material. This gives the paint or hardware store a good idea of what shade you are thinking about. A textile swatch can be a great reference material. You might also consider bringing with you a photograph of your inspiration. By doing this, you will are able to choose the colors of the other elements in your room or space like the bed linens, curtain, rugs or art wall decor. Just remember that wall paint color may not end up with the same shade as that of your reference material since paint solution reacts differently to materials.

Paint the trims

Always make sure to give contrast in colors. This will give your space depth and texture. Do not paint a room all red from floor to ceiling! The best way to add contrast in colors without having to paint a large portion of the room in different colors is through painting the trims. Paint the door frames, window panes, or moldings in the space. In this way, you are introducing another color in the room and at the same time giving you that contrast.

Wall or Furniture First

There are two ways you can choose a wall color. First, you can choose the wall color and then purchase items for the room based upon that color or colors. You may also opt to do it the other way around. You can choose your furniture first and then decide what wall paint color you want.

Finish the walls

Painting the entire wall does not mean that the wall is finished. The finish is an important factor in wall painting. A finish can enhance the color of the wall, give texture or shine. You can choose from flat, matte, or semi-gloss finishes for your walls.

Select a base color

A base color is the undertone hue of any color. Prior to choosing wall paint, make sure you understand the base color of the paint. A paint can have orange, red, green, or brown undertones to mention a few. The subtle colors that go with other colors near the color on the color wheel. For instance, paint with undertones of orange go well with brown, pink and green.

Study the colors

It is a good idea to have a good understanding of the colors. Once you have understood how colors work, why some colors work well together more than with another and why it brings out certain emotions then it will be easier to decide which wall color you should get.

Painting your walls with a fresh new coat is easy enough work. It can be a bit challenging to decide which color to paint your walls. As long as you understand how colors work then you will pass this project with flying colors.
