Placemat Tablecloth

How do you keep your tablecloth clean?

My DH (God love him) is a slightly messy eater, and gets things on the tablecloth and place mats no matter what. I have to wash/change them like 3x a week. I don’t want to go bare table, nor do I want to do the vinyl tablecloth (or placemat) thing, because they have a tendency to look cheap. I have also tried Scotchguarding them. *sigh* Anyone have any ideas? Serious answers, please.

With 4 kids, a daycare, and a husband in my home, I have given up on any kind of table covering except vinyl for the time being. My mom uses a clear tablecloth over her cloth tablecloth and it works really well plus still looks nice. She doesn’t use the cheapest one she can find as they are quite stiff and won’t lay flat over the table edges. Most linen places carry these as well as Target, K-mart, and department stores.
