Experience a Mediterranean Delight by visiting The Maltese Islands

The Maltese Islands is a paradise of five Islands located in the heart of the Mediterranean, two of which are uninhabited. Malta is the main Island, followed by Gozo and Comino which is the smallest of the inhabited Islands.

Each of these Islands is a paradise of luxury surrounded by the clearest lush waters of the Mediterranean. These Islands are steeped in history, and is one of the most Conquered places in the World. Its strategic position making most major powers envious of its position thus encouraged them to try and take control. The Romans, Byzantines, Arabs, Normans, French and British have all taken turns in invading this small Island.

This in turn has helped develop the Islands Cultural Heritage, but rest assured, even though this little Country now has a multi cultural flavour, the Maltese culture remains strong, as the very friendly and tough minded people have fought bravely over the ages to hold onto their identity.

In amazement, considering the amount of times this small Island has been attacked, the infrastructure from its early days of occupation remain intact, with perfectly crafted buildings from many ages.

This is why many major movies have been made on location in the paradise of the Mediterranean, due to its well maintained historic infrastructure.

Water sports are the main recreation due to its fortunate oasis of surrounding clear blue waters; you can find almost every imaginable type of water sport on these Islands. They do have a few sandy beaches, which have been man made by importing sand from the Sahara and St Georges bay is the latest addition to these facilities.

Accommodation here is plentiful; from basic bed and breakfast to luxury 5 star hotels and prices are very reasonable. I have been fortunate enough to stay in the Radisson SAS St Georges bay as well as the new Intercontinental on two separate vacations. Both hotels provided exceptional service, and as a seasoned traveler I was more than happy.

The first vacation I took residing at the Radisson SAS I organized myself, booking the flights and accommodation online. The second was for two weeks as a package deal but both times the standard of service and quality was of the highest standard.

Package deals are popular, although most accommodation comes with breakfast only. This is good really because there are many places to eat out at very reasonable prices.

Entertainment is also varied and abundant, with St Julians providing the main hub of night life on the Island – Paceville, from bars and clubs to tranquil waterside restaurants overlooking the harbours.

Gold, Silver, glassware and lace is the local specialty for gifts on the Island and both shops and markets offer some really good bargains, so do look around, make a point of visiting the main market in Valletta which commences at the bus station and spreads through the small side roads of the Capital.

If you travel to Malta in the winter months or spring, you will have the opportunity to see some of their festivals and carnivals including the week long carnival in March, which are all heavily supported by the friendly and generous people of Malta, an experience which should not be missed.

Malta is ideal for families, couples or individual travelers alike, offering an inviting location with varied activities and temperate climate for all.
