Are French People Rude ?
A number of Americans successfully spread that French people are rude. It is possible that those Americans were neither finely educated nor were taught to have high human values, principles, and standards; and they confronted that reality. What you just read means that if a person is visiting France ~or your home, or mine~ he must show to have and offer kindness and respect before expecting kindness and respect.
Yes, expect rude people in Paris, in New York, in Beijing, in Sydney, and in every major city.
Unlike Mexicans in the U.S.A. ~who can not understand that they are in someone else’s country~ you must understand that you are in French people’s country. Consequently, it is expected of you to show consideration by speaking basics sentences in the language of those who are in THEIR home. If you are incapable to understand what you just read, visiting France will confront with reality.
How good are you to learn some French ?
Mexicans need a translation to ”Caution – Wet Floor.“ Are you like them? Then, you should NOT be visiting France. On the other hand, can you demonstrate that you have been raised to be a fine person taught to be kind, that you are aware of your inescapable obligation to offer kindness, consideration, and respect to others everywhere you go; that you were passed on high human values, principles, and standards; and that you can show intelligence to learn ?
Then, French centuries-old traditions and culture, fine art and refinements, exquisite entertainement and enriching shows, heavenly meals and fine wines, interacting with finer people, and great places where you can see the handwriting of the mastermind behind nature are all well suited to go hand-in-hand with you.
When visiting France ~and you approach a French person~ you politely offer a salutation such as ”Bonjour“. You may want to be more elaborated and say “Bonjour Monsieur,” “Bonjour Madame,” or “Bonjour Mademoiselle” if you do not know the marital status of a woman. The next obligatory sentences are “Thank You” and “Good Bye” for which you say “Merci” ~or preferably~ “Merci Beaucoup“ and a proper ”Au Revoir“. I recommend that you learn the statement ”I Do Not Speak French” and the question “Do You Speak English ?”
This is a complete and proper sentence when approaching a French man. You smile, then, you say… “Bonjour Monsieur. Je ne parle pas le français. Parlez vous l’anglais ?” Do not desperate, and read below. I found you a solution, but you must say that sentence even if you read it from a sheet of paper. It would be a charming act !
Possessing manners only fine people know about make a mountain-like difference on how French people react to you approaching them. Expect them to gracefully appreciate that you offered a proper salutation; then, that you have the intellect and invested your efforts to acquire basic but good French. Each time you are visiting France, your message to French people is that you are one of the not many Americans raised to have all of the above.
It is then easy to construe that “French people are rude” is a concept from Americans who were not educated to possess the human qualities needeed to comprehend why ~when a person is visiting France~ he must offer kindness, respect, and consideration before expecting kindness, respect, and consideration.
Bon voyage !
