Embroidered Silk

I am embroidering a design onto a silk waistcoat. What should I use to reinforce the fabric? Some interfacing?

I think if I just embroider onto the silk it will pull so I think I need to reinforce it with something but I am not sure what. Any help gratefully received.

Depends on the weight of the silk, and depends on the stitches you’re doing. Interfacing or stabilizer would be a good choice; I usually just work on silk in frame — but I don’t used tight stitches on silk.

Silk tends to distort because the yarns are so slick they will slide on each other. But silk has great breaking strength — it’s the strongest natural fiber in terms of breaking strength per unit diameter.
