Embroidered Doily

Popular Wedding Colors and Related Themes
Wedding colors are chosen to complement the wedding couple’s tastes or the season of the wedding. A theme can be chosen to bring out the couples’ individuality and make the wedding a cohesive, magical event.
For a summer wedding, you might choose a Victorian theme. You could have lace and full-blown roses in rich pinks, roses, or peaches. Tie everything together by finishing the favors with lace, having doilies on the tables, and choosing an ornate script for the invitations.
For a winter wedding, go Renaissance with gilded invitations, ornate centerpieces, and deep reds. Use red velvet in the costumes, red lipstick, and deep, red roses.
If you love a color, you could make a theme of the color. In fact, color is a theme brides usually choose without realizing it. Many choose a color they are fond of or one that represents a season for them. Colors for spring are light pinks, oranges, yellows, greens, blues, and lavender. Summer colors are bright, cool colors in pink, red, yellow, blue, and orange. Fall colors are brown-reds, yellow-reds, and oranges. Winter colors are true or deep reds, black, hunter green, navy, and even gray.
You could also choose colors as representations of things you would like to see in your marriage. Red for passion, light blue for fertility, compassion, and peace, pink for love and fondness, purple for intuition and enlightenment, dark blue for communication and dreams, or even black for protection and formality.
Carry your color theme into the invitations, decorations, foods, attire, and flowers. Choose a single kind of flower for another type of theme. You could choose pink roses and sprinkle them throughout the wedding and reception. You could choose roses themselves, adding their image to the invitation, embroidering your dress with roses, carrying them in your bouquet, and having them in a rainbow of colors throughout the wedding and reception. Good spring flower themes are daisies, pansies, black eyed susans, forget-me-nots, and orchids. Choose roses or sunflowers for summer, colored calla lilies and carnations for fall, and white or deeply colored roses, poinsettias, and hibiscus for winter.
Other themes that lend themselves well to colorful exhibition are Halloween, with orange and black; winter wonderland with reds and greens; country with cornflower blue, butter yellow, and red; a rainbow theme using all the colors of the rainbow; a pastel theme; black tie with absolute whites and blacks; a patriotic red, white and blue theme; and a royal purple theme.
An herbal theme lends itself well to colors. Herbs come in a full range of greens, plus pinks, blues, and lavenders that are simply stunning together. Chicory flowers are a vibrant, light blue. Lavender is, well, lavender. Lemon balm is a lively green with a wonderful scent and is representative of happiness. Poppies are a buttery orange and would go nicely with sunflowers, calla lilies, and wheatgrass. Mint and lavender make a fragrant, lovely bouquet or table grace. An herbal theme carries well into centerpieces with pots or bouquets of herbs and favors in dried or potted herbs and sachets to take home.
Whatever theme you choose, let it be an expression of yourself and your love for each other. Choose flowers or colors simply because they make you smile. Don’t get too tied up in what you are “supposed” to do for the season or how you are supposed to grace the table. Let the color people remember be the shine of your eyes as you said your vows or the roses in your cheeks when you cut the cake.
