Why local foods more expensive than imported??

Why does a half pint of nonfat Alta Dena cottage cheese (made in California) cost 4.50$, while a half pint of Knudesen nonfat cottage cheese costs 1.80$ (from Wisconsin)?? I live in California! Less than 200miles from Alta Dena, but the stuff shipped halfway across the country costs 1/3 the price??

It maybe the cost of labour and raw materials is cheaper. That the cost of shipping still enables the product to be sold cheaper than a local product.
