How do you cross stitch on a finished baby quilt? Don’t want stitches to show on the back of the quilt.?

I’m really perplexed as to how to anchor the floss since I can’t do it on the back of the piece as would normally be done because it would show.

If you fold the thread length in half, and put the needle though the loop at the end, the end looks much like any other double thread section. With a bit of twisting, you can get the part where they connect to slid in back, by inserting it back though one of the holes, and coming up directly horizontal or directly vertical.

The other option is to do the piece on a separate material, and attach that to the quilt. I’ve seen this done attractively.

I’ve also seen people start a tail at one end, in the direction of the cross stitch row/column, trying to stitch over the tail, and just cutting off the tail where it exits the material. You may not get each stitch exactly over the tail, but enough that it will likely anchor it.

Last option depends on how tight the material is. It is sometimes possible to get a small knot through fabric. If you leave a bit of a tail to the thread before the knot, it works fine.
