Antique Tambour
Need advice with an antique desk.?
OK, so my boss’s dad has this antique desk that has been in his family for generations. He moved across the country a couple years ago and left the desk behind in Charlotte, NC. He recently came back to decide what to do with it and decided to just throw it away or “donate it” to somewhere…
The desk has been left at my house so I decided to try to find an antique dealer in the area that may be interested in taking it for free, restoring it, and selling it. But as I did my research I found out the desk may be somewhat of a big deal.
It is a Cutler, roll top, with an S-curve tambour. The desk needs some pretty serious reapir due to it’s age, which I’ve been told is probably close to 200 years old. However, the desk overall is in pretty good shape with all it’s orginal peices.
Can anyone recommend what they think I should do? What they think the desk is worth? Who may be interested in restoring/buing it, etc?

Well I would say it could be worth over $1,000 even with needing some restoring it. I think I have 2 sites where you can contact them about appraisals, one place charges $125 per item to do so. The PBS lick below is for the antique roadshow site, and it has a link on that site that takes you into an area with all the names of the appraisers. On the right side of the page you can pick what type of item you want appraised and it gives you all the names of the appraisers who do that type of appraising and thier email addresses. There is 20 appraisers that appraise furniture on the PBS site, so maybe you can use a digital camera to take pictures of the desk and email the photos and ask the appraisers information about the desk. They might email or call you back with how much they think it is worth and maybe tell you were it can be restored or sold at an auction.
